Fitness Magnolia Coaches
Shelley grew up in Tomball, Texas where she began her love of sports at the age of 5 participating in local track meets. She took advantage of all the opportunities she could in school competing in volleyball, softball, and, her favorite, as a sprinter and thrower in Track & Field. After rehabilitating a knee injury in college, she walked on to Abilene Christian University’s volleyball team and as a Javelin thrower on the Track & Field team where she trained with several Olympic athletes and accomplished coaches. After earning her Masters of Science degree from Baylor University, she worked for 12 years as a trainer working with clients on weight loss, nutrition, sports specific athletes, and senior adults. In 2012, Shelley had the opportunity to open CrossFit Commanders and bring in the best coaches and create the best environment to work with anyone who wants to get better, stronger, faster, and healthier.

My name is Mitchell Shaffner, and I have been with Commanders for over 2 years now. I became certified to coach in July of ’13, and I’ve been coaching ever since. I come from a background of athletic and personal training before I found my place here, and I have incorporated CrossFit exercises into my own workouts since I discovered what CrossFit is back in 2008. I truly believe there is no better workout for whatever your goal: if you want to lose weight, gain weight, get stronger or faster, or even as simple as being able to be active again. I really do care about not just the athlete but the person as an individual. I will assist you in any way I can to get you where you want your fitness to be, and if I don’t have the answer I will find it. But one crucial thing I’ve learned most of all is that flexibility should be very high on your priority list. Without it and you’ll constantly acquire injuries. I played basketball in high school, ran track and cross country, and I carry over a lot of the way I teach from those experiences. Currently I am an Operating Room Technologist at Northwest Surgery Center where I assist surgeons during operations. My future goals are to become a Physician’s Assistant, and to run a half mile in 2:00, complete Fran in under 2:20, and to run a mile in less than 5:00. My favorite workout would have to be either Lynn or Fran.
